Allergy testing advised for top 100 fall allergy cities

Category: Allergy Testing

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) recently unveiled data listing the 100 most common allergies in autumn and the worst U.S. cities for fall allergy sufferers.

Most notably, the AAFA reported McAllen, Texas; Wichita, Kansas; and Louisville, Kentucky as the most challenging locations for those susceptible to allergens which emerge each fall, such as ragweed. A survey administered in connection with the research also indicated that 29 percent of respondents suffer from eye allergies during this time of year.

Mike Tringale, director of External Affairs at AAFA said, "Whether a city is ranked number 100 on the Allergy Capitals list or number 1, it's essential for allergy sufferers to take the appropriate steps to manage their allergies." He advised, "Allergy sufferers should know what allergens trigger their symptoms and how to manage them." Allergy tests are available for these determinations.

Eye allergy symptoms, which can be caused by pollen, ragweed or pet dander, often include redness and constant itching. Recently contact lenses have been cited as an exacerbating factor for those who endure these symptoms each fall.

The AAFA determined that about 4 percent of allergy sufferers experience eye allergies as their primary symptoms.
