Vaccines do not cause allergies, new study finds

Category: Allergy Testing

Following some recent negative news stories, many parents of children who received common vaccinations headed back to the doctor seeking food allergy testing for their offspring. However, a new study has found that there is no connection between vaccinations and allergies.

The idea sprung into popular imagination following speculation from certain doctors as to the effect vaccines have on a young person's immune system. The postulations held that inoculations put a great strain on a developing immune system and that this may lead to autoimmune disorders, such as food allergies and infections.

However, after examining the medical records of thousands of German youths, researchers from the Robert Koch Institute found no association between vaccines and autoimmune disorders. The only correlation they noted was that children who don't get vaccinated are more likely to contract preventable infections.

The findings follow the release of another highly publicized study, which conclusively proved that the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine does not increase the risk of developing autism, as some parents worried. The new study contributes to the mounting evidence suggesting that childhood vaccinations do not cause harm.
