Many people who have received unhealthy cholesterol test results have been warned by their doctors not to eat eggs. However, this advice may be inaccurate, as experts say that the type of cholesterol found in the produce may not be harmful to heart health.
It is true that eggs contain extremely high levels of cholesterol. However, that does not necessarily mean that it will all be absorbed into the blood stream. Officials from the USDA say that this means they may not contribute to poor heart health.
"Evidence suggests that one egg per day does not result in increased blood cholesterol levels, nor does it increase the risk of cardiovascular disease in healthy people," the guidelines say, according to the Des Moines Register.
The recommendations go on to say that consuming up to 300 milligrams of cholesterol per day can help individuals maintain normal cardiovascular function.
Furthermore, a recent study from the FDA showed that eggs actually have less cholesterol than previously thought. Therefore, individuals who have avoided eggs due to heart health concerns may want to rethink their stance.
