Many people wait until Monday to seek STD testing

Category: Sexually Transmitted Diseases

The weekend is the most common time for people to engage in sexual activity, but new research suggests that individuals may not feel concerned about their unsafe sexual practices until the weekend is over.

Researchers told My Health News that they found the number of people seeking STD testing spikes on Monday mornings. They speculated that many people may feel the need to sleep on the decision to seek screening, resulting in the delay.

The team looked at the number of people who sought testing from a 24/7 online services. The researchers said they were surprised to see that so many people would wait until Monday morning when the services is available at any time.

They told the news source that more people who are concerned about unsafe sexual encounters should take advantage of testing resources that are always available because the sooner a person is tested, the sooner they can find out if they are infected. This may stop them from spreading the infection to others.

For these reasons, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said that regular STD testing for sexually active individuals is one of the best ways to stop spread of infections like chlamydia and HIV.
