Aside from abstinence, wearing a condom during sex is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. One group is working to make sure that more are aware of the benefits of this safe-sex practice.
The AIDS Healthcare Foundation is currently embarking on a 20-state tour bringing condoms and HIV testing to communities across the country. The goal of Condom Nation, as the initiative has come to be known, is to inform more people of the importance of taking steps to prevent the spread of STDs.
"Condoms are an essential part of preventing HIV and STDs," said Michael Weinstein, president of the group. "Not only are they extremely effective at preventing transmission, they are cheaper and easier to use than many other prevention tools. Our hope is that Condom Nation raises awareness and sparks conversations along the way."
In addition to condom use, the group is advocating HIV testing, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of infections.
