Rates of STD infection are rising across the country, but community centers are working to lower these figures by offering free STD testing at their facilities.
CAMP Rehoboth in Delaware is one such community center that recently began offering testing for Chlamydia and gonorrhea, according to the Cape Gazette.
Program director Salvatore Seeley told the news source that infection rates are rising in his community, but that there is no need for them to when centers like his make testing so accessible.
"Its tragic that so many men and women continue to be affected by STDs. Most STDs are curable or treatable, and they are all preventable," he said.
Seeley added that the only way to know for sure if you have an infection is to get an STD test, as many diseases can be present in the body for a long period of time before presenting any symptoms.
Government health agencies say that getting tested can be one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of STDs.
