Many men begin to experience a decrease in sexual desire as they begin to age, and most individuals simply accept these types of issues as a normal part of the aging process. However, a testosterone test may reveal other another cause for the issue.
Dr. Abraham Morgentaler, a Harvard urologist, told Fox News that low testosterone levels associated with age are the leading cause of decreased sexual function in men. However, this problem may not be as serious as it initially seems.
Morgentaler said testosterone deficiency can be treated relatively easily with supplements. These can boost hormone levels and restore sexual function back to a normal point.
"It is not a 'cure' for everyone, but there is no doubt that a great many men who are treated for low T feel like they are 'alive again,' with increased energy, sexual desire, and a renewed sense of purpose and vitality," he told the news source.
A team of researchers recently estimated in the journal Aging Male that upwards of 20 percent of all men over the age of 50 have diminished testosterone levels.
