Men who spend a lot of time on their laptop may want to consider FSH testing to measure their fertility, as new research suggests that the devices may have significant negative effects on sperm quality and quantity.
A team of researchers reported in the journal Fertility and Sterility that sperm samples placed under a laptop connected wirelessly to the internet for four hours showed significant levels of DNA damage and they were less mobile. Additionally, many sperm cells died during the experiment.
While the study only examined the effect of laptop use on sperm samples outside of the body, the researchers concluded in their study that they believe excessive use of internet-connected devices placed near the testes may lead to fertility issues. Still, they recommended that further investigation be conducted in a clinical setting.
The findings could have many implications for men. Use of wireless devices has exploded in recent years, but the science on the affect this has on reproductive health is still unclear. Individuals who are concerned about what excessive laptop use has done to their fertility may benefit from FSH testing.
