As many men begin to age, they may begin to notice a lack of energy and declining mood. For these men, testosterone testing may help shed some light on a condition that could be slowing down their life, and help them find treatment.
Doctors aren't sure exactly what causes low testosterone levels, but they know that as men age they start to lose the hormone. This can result in moodiness, fatigue and even depression.
Testosterone tests evaluate the level of the hormone in individuals and determine whether or not they should be treated. Dr Alvin Matsumoto told Reuters that many men have the condition but don't realize it. These men may suffer the effects of the condition without ever being treated.
"There does need to be an increased awareness of true clinical [low testosterone]," he told the news source. "I think a lot of people are missed."
Treating the condition is a simple matter of injecting the hormone into the glutteal area, and can take as little as five minutes. The benefits of these injections can last up to six months, according to Fox Charlotte. There are also creams and other treatments.
