MTV using celebrities for STD awareness month

Category: Sexually Transmitted Diseases

In what may be an effort to educate a younger audience about STD prevention, MTV is employing the help of celebrities to get the word out about safe sex and to urge people to start getting routine blood tests to know their status.

Today, Solange Knowles, the younger sister of Beyonce, was spotted at the Body Shop & MTV Networks' Say Yes, Yes, Yes to Safe Sex event promoting the act of using protection during sexual intercourse.

Other celebrities that have helped the music channel network in raising awareness include the All-American Rejects, Perez Hildon, Big Boi and Good Charlotte, theBatt.com reports.

Earlier this month, MTV announced a partnership with the Kaiser Family Foundation and Planned Parenthood to launch the Get Yourself Tested campaign, which is currently encouraging people under the age of 25 to get an STD test.

"It is absolutely critical for young adults to get tested so they can know their status 100 percent," MTV's Janice Gatti told the news provider.

Some people who feel a little shy or self-conscious about going to clinic or a doctor's office to get an STD test may want to look into getting an online lab test, which can be done in the privacy of their home.
