Many infertile couples still conceive naturally

Category: Infertility Testing-Male

Just because one member of a couple has received FSH test results indicating they are infertile does not necessarily mean that the couple will be unable to conceive a child naturally. A new study published in the journal Fertility and Sterility indicates that conception is still a possibility.

For the study, a team of French researchers examined data from more than 2,000 couples who sought treatment from fertility clinics. The researchers followed up with the participants eight to 10 years after their initial fertility treatment.

The results showed that many of the couples went on to conceive artificially immediately following their fertility treatment. This was expected. The surprise came when the researchers discovered that many couples subsequently became pregnant for a second time without any assistance.

The researchers said the findings could give hope to couples who have been unsuccessful in conceiving a child after pursuing artificial methods. Furthermore, couples who would like to naturally conceive their child may have reason to continue their effort, even if they have received less than favorable FSH test results.
