STD testing is not only important for the individual being screened, it is also a crucial part of helping those in a sexual relationship know the status of their partner. As part of this, online STD test results sharing services are becoming increasingly popular.
The STD test sharing service U Should Know is currently seeking to partner with college sexual health departments across the country to make the services more available to students, who are among the groups most at risk for contracting sexually transmitted infections.
The way the service works is individuals can ask STD testing facilities to load their results under their profile. These individuals can then share passwords giving access to their profiles to up to three other individuals. A person must get retested within six months in order to keep their membership active.
Officials from the service said that their goal is to help make sexually active individuals more aware of their partners' STD status. This could help reduce the prevalence of diseases like HIV and herpes.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said that regular testing of all sexually active individuals is one of the best ways to reduce the prevalence of diseases.
