Men should consider fertility testing, expert says

Category: Infertility Testing-Male

When a couple experiences difficulty conceiving, they generally look to see if the woman's fertility is impaired in any way. However, experts say that men are just as often the cause of the problem, and FSH testing for males may benefit couples that are having trouble conceiving.

Brad Imler, of the American Pregnancy Association, told the Baltimore Sun that most people simply do not think about the fact that the root of fertility problems could start with the man. This is unfortunate, because there are many treatments available that may help couples overcome these difficulties.

"Unfortunately, the majority of society looks at infertility as a women's issue, but that's just not the case," he told the news source.

However, this may be changing. Imler pointed to at-home fertility testing kits that are now on the market for men. These products may help couples determine the cause of their difficulties.

The National Library of Medicine reports that about one-third of infertility cases occur in women, while one-third occur in man. The cause of the remaining third cannot be identified.
